May 26, 1915, Newport News, Virginia; Jewish; Algerian American; Father Joseph Sasson (b. 1881 Tunis, Algeria, to uS 1914, d. 1928); Single; Salesman; CP 1934; Received Passport# 365106 on February 3, 1937 which listed his address as 65 East 2nd Street, NYC (67 Stevenson Place, Bronx, New York); Arrived in Spain via Setcases on July 5, 1937; Served with the XV Brigade, Lincoln-Washington Battalion, Adjutant Company Commander (or Commissar); Rank Sargento; Killed in action April 1, 1938, Batea-Gandesa, during the Retreats; Had been reported KIA July 20, 1937 in the Daily Worker; State Department document indicates Sasson was arrested β€œfor enlistment in with the Spanish Government forces.”
