Edward Ferdiand Muscala


k-Muscala, Edward Ferdinand. b. February 7, 1912, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Italian American, Married, Cook, YCL, received passport# 465793 on July 27, 1937 which listed his address as 1812 5th Street South, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 25 years old; Sailed August 7, 1937 aboard the Georgic, Arrived in Spain August 23, 1937; Served with the XV BDE, Lincoln-Washington BN, rank Soldado later Cabo, KIA April 3, 1938, Gandesa, during the Retreats.

Edward Muscala: I have recently been contacted by Anna Martí who comes from a village called Aguaviva near Teruel, Aragon. In September of this year a small area of painted wall was discovered in the half-ruined church, bearing the following inscription:- Edward Muscala Lincoln-Washington Battalion 15 Brigade  12/25/1939 Minneapolis Minn USA I am writing to the members of the Forum on Anna’s behalf hoping to find more information about Edward Muscala and the reason his name was recorded there with the date of 25 December 39. I can send photographs by email on request.  Angela Jackson No Jubilem La Memoria;  Muscala, Edward Ferdiand was born February 7, 1912 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He traveled to Spain on passport 465793 issued July 27, 1937 and bore the address 1812 5th Street South, Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He sailed for Europe on August 7, 1937 aboard the Georgic.  In Spain he served in the XV BD, 58 BN (Lincoln-Washington) and rose to the rank of Cabo.  He is listed as killed in action April 3, 1938 near Gandesa.  Another document states his rank as Sold. And as “desaparecidos accion 1 Abril 1938.  He is one of hundreds who were lost during the swirling actions remembered as the Retreats  ~Posted to the ALBA listserve 3 Nov 2004
