January 4, 1911, NYC; Russian American; Jewish; Father Persach Mandel (1885-1939), mother Bertha Mandel (1881-?), step-mother Bunie Margolin (1893-1918); Attended the City College of New York for 3.5 years and New York University for an additional 1 year; Married Claire Roviello August 22, 1935; Insurance broker; CP 1937 (1933) and YCL 1933, Branch organizer; Received Passport# 373566 on March 11, 1937 which listed his address as 62-16 Mount Olivet Avenue, Maspeth, Long Island, New York (3747 61st Street, Wookrick, Long Island); Sailed March 17, 1937 aboard the President Roosevelt; Arrested in France on April 4, 1937, Passport was held by French Authorities; Served with the XV BDE, Mackenzie-Papineau BN; Rank Sargento; Killed in action February 17, 1938 Segura de los Baños; Passport handed over by French Authorities to US Embassy
