k-Ashley, Everett Charles (Charles Everett); b. September 21, 1913, Columbus, Muscogee, Georgia; father Walter Ashley; Single; Seaman and Student; CP 1936; Received Passport# 2976, San Francisco series, on June 10, 1937 which listed his address as 2315 3rd Avenue, Columbus, Georgia, and 68 Barrow Street, NYC; Sailed June 8, 1937 aboard the Alaunia; Arrived in Spain via Setcase on July 5, 1937 and entered the IB on July 9, 1937; Served with the XV BDE, Service Sanitaire; Killed in action January 25, 1938, Teruel; Ashley’s brother Walter V. Ashley contacted the State Department stating his brother took a train from New York to Montreal where sailed for France on June 18, 1937, brother requested to be advised whether his brother could be apprehended and returned to the US; Ashley went to sea at 17 and his mother Mrs. John W. Cartnell, who was living in Birmingham, Alabama signed his application.
