Biography

Baldasso, Mario (Baldassio; Bazdasso, Mario); b. August 29, 1899, Genoa, Italy, to US 1926, jumped ship from the Italian Navy when his ship stopped in New York; Italian American; father Guglielmo Baldasso, mother Rachele (Pinarello) Baldasso; Served in the Italian Navy; Deserted when his ship docked in NYC; Single; Driver and Maritime worker; CP; Domicile NYC; Arrived in Spain in 1937; Served with the 1st Regiment de Tren as a driver; Requested repatriation on February 13, 1938; noted he had been in Spain for a year and was unable to provide for his family who were still in Italy (“still in a fascist country”).
