Biography

Zak, Stephen. b. September 19, 1916, NYC; 6 years Technical School; 3 years prior service with the US Army, NY National Guard, 71st Infantry; Single; Surveyor; CP January 1937 and YCL 1932; received passport# 466079 on July 30, 1937 which listed his address as 113 East 3rd Street, and 1st Avenue, both NYC; Sailed August 11, 1937 aboard the Queen Mary; Arrived in Spain August 19 (28), 1937; Served with the XV BDE, Lincoln-Washington BN, October-December 7, 1937; BDE MG Co., December 7, 1937-March 12, 1938; MacKenzie-Papineau BN, March 12-July 6, 1938; 35th Division, Special MG BN, July 6, 1938-withdrawal;  Served at Fuentes del Ebro, Teruel, Retreats and Ebro Offensive; Returned to the US on December 20, 1938 aboard the Ausonia.
