Allander, William  b. March 30, 1909, Walsenburg, Colorado; Finnish American; father Alex Allander; No prior military service; Single; Miner and Construction Worker; CP July 1929, unit organizer; Hod Carriers and common Labor Unions, Local 720 ALF; Received Passport# 379577 on March 26, 1937 which listed his address as 722 E 15th Avenue, Denver, Colorado; Sailed May 26, 1937 aboard the Vollendam; Arrested on June 20, 1937 when the vessel he was traveling to Spain on, the Joven Teresa, was intercepted by the French aviso Granit near Port-Vendres; Arrived in Spain via Massanet on June 22, 1937 and entered the IB on June 24, 1937; Served with the XV BDE, Auto Park, later with Lincoln-Washington BN; In July 1938 he was in the Lincoln-Washington Plana Mayor; In September 1938 he was with the BDE Auto Park as a Driver; Served at Belchite, Fuentes de Ebro, Teruel, Retreats, and the Ebro Offensive; Rank Soldado; After the Internationals were withdrawn Allander stayed in Barcelona without leave and got into trouble with the CP in Ripoll; Returned to the US on December 15, 1938 aboard the Paris, returned on certificate #886; WWII US Army, enlisted November 3, 1942, served with Company B, 106th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division, rank SGT; d. July 8, 1944, Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, buried Riverside Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.
